I recently bought a boat with a 1984 Mercury Black Max. First off, the cowl is a little rough. Is there a way to put an alien cowl on this engine? Probably not, but figured it wouldnt hurt to ask. On a 2000+ (year might not be important) MERC 2.5 Drag Motor or any other MERC motor I guess with the alien style cowling, in the top rear corners on each side of the cowl there are two fairly small holes through the cowl allowing air flow.. As a matter of fact, we wouldn't run a 2.4/2.5 Mercury EFI motor without one :) HStream1. 02-16-2009.
